EV Charger

Installing EV chargers are not as easy as you might think

EV charger installs are not the most technical installations we at ABP Electrical do, but there is a caveat to consider. It is critical that load calcs are calculated so that the service panel isn’t overloaded. This can cause main breakers to trip and other possible problems. All current loads must be calculated to verify the charger can be added without an MPU. Most homes with a 200-amp service will be able to add a charger without an upgrade. Homes with services of 150 amps or lower are much more likely to need to be upgraded due to the added charger power demand. The good news is, if you are upgrading your service panel to install solar or to add an EV charger you may claim 30% of the cost as a tax credit. Yes, EV chargers can be a little complicated but at ABP Electrical we can make it easy.
